Dave Olds

Colonel Dave Olds Remembered

Dave developed a love for scouting as a youth. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Col. Olds served a distinguished career in the US Air Force. He participated in conflicts in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. His military service brought him to the Myrtle Beach AFB in 1988 where he retired in 1992.

During his military career, Dave Olds found time to serve Scouting in various adult leadership roles. Over the years, Dave served as Cub master, Scoutmaster, and various unit and district committee positions. The Pee Dee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America recognized his organizational and administrative skills by placing him in the position of Vice-President of Program and a seat on the Executive Board. He also served as course director for Wood Badge course SR-45. His Scouting recognitions included Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, District Award of Merit, and the Silver Beaver, the council's highest award to volunteers.

Dave's passion was seeing Scouts actively participating in program activities. Col. Dave Olds passed away in 1999 and is remembered as a family man, a true patriot and a valued friend of Scouting.
