Fellow Scouter, I am writing to encourage you to attend the upcoming Wood Badge course being offered by the Pee Dee Area Council BSA. It is a leadership training experience that benefits every scout leader. It doesn’t matter if you have many years of experience as a scout leader, or are just starting as a registered adult. It may be of most benefit to those of you who are new scout leaders. It applies to every position, not just Cubmasters and Scoutmasters. Committee members and other positions benefit from the course. The course is designed to develop leadership skills applicable to every level of scouting from Cub Scouts to Venturers. The prerequisites are simple: be a registered scouter 18 years or older, and trained for your position. The course does not teach scouting specific skills, but rather leadership skills. The course is two weekends, starting early Friday morning and is conducted Sept. 26-28 and Oct. 10-12. You will develop life-long friendships with scouters from across the region, several of whom will be from outside of our Council. It is truly a life changing experience. Please give this opportunity careful and prayerful consideration. It will benefit you in all aspects of your life, not just Scouting, but in your family, religious organization, community, and your profession. Many employers will provide time and/or costs for the course. I have a letter you can provide to your employer to justify attendance and costs at your employer’s expense. Attached is a registration form with additional information. Hope to see you at Wood Badge! Yours in Scouting, Wade Dickens Course Director |
