Subject: Santee Lodge, OA - IMPORTANT SANTEE LODGE UPDATES AND EVENT INFORMATION

Good Evening Brothers,

SPRING FELLOWSHIP
Spring Fellowship is quickly approaching!  It will be at Camp Coker on March 18 through 20, 2016.  Our Events Chairman, Jason Woodbury, and our Dixie Chairman, Harrison Flowers, have both been tirelessly working to plan Spring Fellowship.  Contrary to our usual fellowships, this year’s Spring Fellowship will be centered on preparing for the 2016 Dixie Fellowship.  Meaning that a good portion of the time will be devoted to preparing for the Quest, ceremonial, and administrative competitions at Dixie; these events will include: archery, softball throw, chariot race, knot-tying relay, fire building, tent pitching, tomahawk throw, iron scout, etc… To allow full focus on Dixie preparation, we will not be conducting Ordeal Inductions or Brotherhood conversions. Instead, we will be conducting them at our OA Work Weekend.   Remember that you will need to bring a tent (Summer Camp tents will not be available).  A copy of the Spring Fellowship Registration form is attached.  Please sign-up as soon as possible, the deadline for registering is March 11, 2016.  We are looking for adults to help out in the kitchen at this event, if you are interested please contact Jason Woodbury at santee116eventschairman@gmail.com.

FRIDAY NIGHT COOKOUT
On the Friday of Spring Fellowship, Santee Lodge will be hosting its second ever Friday Night Cookout.  The cost to attend will be $10.00 and will include a steak (which you get to grill to perfection), salad, and a potato (with butter, cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits).  If you would like to participate you must pre-register by March 11th.  Once you have checked into the Fellowship, you will be able to pick up your steak anytime between 6:00pm and 8:00pm.  A copy of the Friday Night Cookout Registration form is attached.  We are looking for adults to help out in the kitchen for this, if you are interested please let me know.

DIXIE INFORMATION
The 2016 Dixie will be held at Knox Scout Reservation of the Georgia-Carolina Council. Bob White Lodge 87 will be our host.  It will be on the weekend of April 22-24, 2016.  At Dixie Fellowship, Santee Lodge will be competing against the other nine lodges in SR-5, in administrative, ceremonial, and quest competitions.  The Quest for the Golden Arrow consists of a series of athletic challenges including: archery, softball throw, chariot race, knot-tying relay, egg toss, fire building, tent pitching, tomahawk throw, and iron scout.  At our 2016 Dixie there will be representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records as we attempt to set the WORLD RECORD FOR THE LARGEST SHAVING CREAM FIGHT.  We will also be participating in human foosball. We only have 75 slots left on our delegation, so it is imperative that you sign-up quickly; these slots will fill up fast.  The Dixie Registration Form is attached.

OA WORK WEEKEND
OA Work Weekend will be June 3-5, 2016.  This will be the last opportunity for Ordeal candidates to be inducted into the lodge from the 2015 Unit Election.  Brotherhood candidates will also have the opportunity to do their conversion. Please pass this information along to any youth you are aware of that still need to do their Ordeal or want to complete their Brotherhood. We will also be reaching out to these individuals over the next couple of months. As you are aware, the purpose of the Work Weekend is service to Camp Coker. We will be getting Camp Coker ready for summer camp.  As a thank you for participating, each registered participant will be given one free OA Work Weekend patch. Attending this event is the only way that you will be able to receive this patch AND be eligible to purchase additional ones. The patch is a special ring that ties all of the other patches in our 2016 Patch Set together. Please plan on attending this weekend of cheerful service. Registration forms with additional information will be available by Spring Fellowship.

OA WEEK
Go ahead and save the week of July 17-24, 2016 for OA Week.  This is an event that is unique to Santee Lodge and is a great opportunity to earn rare merit badges that are not offered at Camp Coker and several Eagle required merit badges.  This year’s pageant director will be Tim Hellaby II, and he will be directing a play of his own creation. We are always looking for Adult and Youth to staff OA week so it is never too soon to reach out to Jason Woodbery and express your willingness to help!

DUES
I would also like to remind everyone that the 2015 – 2016 Lodge Dues were due at Summer Fellowship. If you did not pay your dues at that time, you can go online and pay them on the council web site, pay them at the council office or pay them when you register for Fall Fellowship. If you need to verify if you owe your dues, please email Phil Bethune at Santee116events@gmail.com. The cost is $10.

MEDICAL FORMS
All youth and adults, please remember to BRING a copy of your completed BSA Medical Form (Part A and Part B) to Spring Fellowship. If you do not bring a copy, you will be required to fill one out at registration before you will be allowed to participate. The BSA Medical Forms are available online at http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_AB.pdf .

ELANGOMAT FLAP
In an effort to encourage more brothers to become involved in the OA induction process and to distinguish elangomats, the Lodge Executive Committee has voted to award a special lodge flap exclusively to brothers who serve as an elangomat, and go through the entire ordeal experience.  In order to get the flap you must serve as an elangomat two times (within one year) starting at Spring Fellowship.  There will be a maximum of two youth elangomats per chapter per event.  There will be a maximum of one adult per chapter per event.  Each Chapter Chief is responsible for appointing the youth and adult who will represent their chapter.  There is no limit to the number that any one person may earn.  This flap will not be available for purchase from the lodge store.
