Unit Charters are due Dec 31, 2016.
Council will be CLOSED ... Dec 26, 2016 to Jan 3, 2017
** Charters need to be turned in this week by Dec 23.
We do not want to lose any of you.
Units will be dropped if not turned in by 12-31-16.
What happens???
* no insurance
* can not have a unit meeting or outings
* any advancements will not count as done
* units will have to fill out all new applications for youth & adults.
WHY RECHARTER ON TIME- Allows the Scouts to continue advancing.
- Allows the Units to meet.
- Allows outdoor activities.
- Maintains historical continuity of Unit tenure.
- Keeps Scouts and leaders insured.
- Allows the pack to earn Quality Unit.
What happens if our unit’s charter is not turned in by December 31, 2016?
The District Executives and Unit Commissioners will be following up with units whose charters have not been received by Dec 23, 2016. If your charter is not turned in on time, there may not be enough time to post the unit’s charter by December 31, 2016. If the unit’s charter is not posted by January 1, 2017, the unit can suffer a number of problems. First, the unit is no longer covered by BSA insurance coverage. This means that your leaders could be liable in the event of an accident. Second, youth advancements cannot be recorded through the national office of the Boy Scouts of America. Third, magazine subscriptions of Boy’s Life and Scouting will lapse (and it takes a full two months for these periodicals to resume their circulation to your home). Finally, your unit will not be eligible for the Journey to Excellence Award - an important distinction and an indication that you are bringing the best possible program to your unit’s youth.
