Time is running out, but I am sure you have heard that before. Here is a way to have recognized the work of others who have been working hard in your Troop, Pack, Crew, District or Council. People who work for or with youth.

SPARK PLUG - Spark Plugs are given to people at the unit level who spark the unit. They are always there and willing to help. They have great ideas. They don't mind getting their hands dirty or bending down to the level of a scout. Each unit can recommend two (only two) people. Send the names to Rick Curran at cmugrick@aol.com. No special form is needed and a person can receive more than one spark plug over the years. Get your names in by Roundtable to make sure your person gets recognized at the District Court of Honor in February.

DISTRICT AWARD OF MERIT - The DAM recognizes a scouter (Cub, Boy Scouter, Crew or Ship leader) for his or her work with youth within the District. They may be involve with district activities, roundtable, commissioning, district committee, training, cub day camp…they are willing to step up and help out. Usually a DAM recipient has been working at the district level for five or more years. To recommend someone for this award, fill in the enclosed form and get it to Rick Curran by the December Roundtable where the DAM Committee will make their recommendation to Council. Two DAMs will be awarded at the District Court  of Honor in February. In a life time, you can only earn one DAM.

SILVER BEAVER - The Silver Beaver Award is awarded by National Boy Scouts at the recommendation of the local Council. Depending on the number of units in the council determines the number of Silver Beavers that can be awarded. Typically form 4 to 7 are awarded at the Council Banquet. The honoree is a person who works with youth within the boarders of the council. They may work at the district or council level. They usually have been involved for ten or more years. They may have been working on council or district activities, be on the council board, be active on the district or council training team or the OA… The Silver Beavers will be presented at the Council Banquet in the spring. One can only receive this award once in a life time. You guessed it, you need to fill out the form enclosed for Silver Beaver Application and send it to council to have your candidate recommended. It needs to get to council by the first of January.

OUTSTANDING EAGLE SCOUT AWARD - This award is new and will be the first one presented for this council. The National Eagle Scout Association provides this award. For many years, NESA has presented awards for Distinguished Eagle Scouts. People who have gone to the moon or those who have had the dirty job of cleaning up after them. Many noted sports people, business people and even people who worked for Peanuts (Charles Schultz) have earned the DESA.  All who have received this award were people who have earned the Eagle Scout Rank

About two years ago NESA created an award to recognize Outstanding Eagle Scouts at  the council level. To nominate someone for the OESA he must be an Eagle Scouts who has distinguished him self within the boarders of the council. Not only has he distinguished him self in scouting, but also within the community and his profession. Only one person can be selected from our council and they will be given the award at the Council Banquet in the spring. You can only receive this award once in a life time. To nominate an adult Eagle Scout, you need to download the attached form and fill it out. Send the form to Ed Suggs at <edsuggsjr@nesa.org> the council NESA Chairman or mail it to council. The form needs to be there by November 15 th so you need to do this in the next couple of days.

SO - here is the what, when and why. You need to supply the WHO.
